The Salvaton Army Gateway has been around since 1980 providing support for men in Toronto with a drop-in shelter located at 107 Jarvis Street. "This year will be an exciting one for the Gateway," according to Dion Oxford, Gateway's director. "We are expanding our services by adding laundry services that will provide employment opportunities for the people that we serve," says Dion.
Gateway had 56,099 visits in 2006 and the number of middle-aged men has been increasing. Gateway provides men with night shelter and meals. People stay anywhere from two weeks or longer.
Gateway's objective is not just to prvide a drop-in-service, but to help rehabilitate people into the workforce, to regain their self-esteem and overcome their difficulties.
