Archives

The archives are the official repository for The Salvation Army in the Canada and Bermuda Territory, and therefore:

• - collect printed, written, pictorial, audio-visual and other formatted records of enduring administrative, legal and/or historical significance to The Salvation Army


• - preserve and protect all collections in accordance with professional procedure


• - provide authorized use of any unrestricted data or artifacts related to The Salvation Army.


• - liaison with Salvation Army heritage facilities in other territories as well as with outside archives and museums in regard to acquiring artifacts and archival records relating to the history of The Salvation Army in the Canada and Bermuda Territory.


• - provide guidelines to Salvation Army officers, departments and corps, for the disposition of all forms of records produced in the course of the business of The Salvations Army.

Museum
The museum is located on the main floor of the Territorial Headquarters building at 2 Overlea Boulevard, Toronto, and is open to the public Monday to Friday for SELF GUIDED tours from 8 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Staff are usually available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to answer questions or assist individual visitors. Guided GroupTours can be arranged by telephoning the office of the Director at 416-285-4344.

NEW DISPLAY AT MUSEUM!

1884 Copy of War Cry on Display in Museum
The newest display in the museum features the evolution of The War Cry from 1884 to the present magazine format the ‘Salvationist’ An original copy of an 1884 War Cry is on display. Each page was 22 inches long and 16 inches wide and along with the fine print of the day made for some challenging reading.

Exhibits in the museum display:

• - The early days of The Salvation Army, its origin in England and beginnings in Canada and in Bermuda,


• - The history of The Army as it spread across Canada from coast to coast and into Bermuda.


• - Artifacts from the loss of the Empress of Ireland in 1914.


• - The story of salvation Army music and ministry,


• - The late General Clarence D. Wiseman, the first Canadian to be elected General.


• - A 'Youth and Children's" display


• - The commencement of and ongoing work of The Salvation Army in Bermuda.
