Hamilton - Pain, despair and overwhelming hopelessness can strike at any hour. The staff and volunteers of The Salvation Army suicide Crisis Line work 24 hours a day, seven days a week around the clock giving hope to those facing inescapable darkness.
The Salvation Army began its first anti-suicide ministry in 1906 and remains a vital intervention and prevention ministry offered by The Salvation Army.
In 2006, the crisis line team consisting of six employees, and 21 volunteers provided supportive intervention to 3,491 individuals experiencing varying degrees of crisis. In addition to the 24-hour crisis line the Suicide Prevention Ministry also provides consultation services, training in suicide prevention, recognition and intervention, supportive short-term counselling, chaplaincy and resources and referrals.
