At last food can be prepared without the interference of birds flying overhead! Front line workers and volunteers of the Breakfast Ministry and Street Youth Ministry of the Toronto Harbour Light Corps have been doing their food preparations in the Salvation Army’s Warehouse and Distribution Centre located on Railside Road in North York.
Since 2004 these ministries relocated for parking and preparation purposes from their downtown home base of the Harbour Light Corps, which was preparing for demolition and construction. The relatively open space of the warehouse sometimes presented challenges in the preparation of food, so an enclosed kitchen space was created, complete with stoves, steamers, fridges, freezers, washer and dryer.
The new kitchen allows for a safer, more hygienic and a more enjoyable place in which to make preparations to serve the needy of downtown Toronto.
