On June 3, 2006, the Campbellford, Ont., thrift store celebrated its grand opening in a new location. The store moved from Bridge Street to its new location in the former Baptist Church, built in the 1980s and recently renovated.

Band members from Belleville, Cobourg and Kingston dropped by for the day to help celebrate the move, along with Mayor Hector Macmillan. The band entertained shoppers from a loft overlooking the floor of the thrift shop.

James Pedlar, program co-coordinator for the Army's community and family services, said the old location was too small to serve their needs. It was a challenge to find a suitably sized location in Campbellford, and it took them almost five months to hit upon this new building. Downstairs from the thrift shop, they'll set up their family services operation and they will again hold dinners that have been ongoing since February at Christ Church Anglican.

Any profits help to support their family services and community programs. Family services includes a food bank, a lunch program, Christmas hampers, and clothes for those in need.

Pedlar said on Saturday, "We want to thank all our volunteers from Campbellford and out of town who have made this possible. Thank you to the people of Campbellford who continue to support the store and the family services, and all the work that we do here in the community. The encouragement is tremendous.'
