Toronto, Ont. - The Regent Park community in downtown Toronto rallied together after a fire last week damaged The Salvation Army's kitchen at River Street and desroyed the food for Thanksgiving.
Nelson Mandela Park Public School offered the school's kitchen and other facilities so the Salvation Army could hold their annual dinner.
PC leader John Tory, longtime Salvation Army supporter, stood in a line with other volunteers to dole out scoops of mashed potatoes to the 200 who attended.
Also serving meals were Fatima Hussein and Hawo Ali who cooked $50 worth of chicken and rice. They were unable to sit down for the afternoon dinner themselves as the can't eat before sundown during Ramadan, the two women said the meal was about friendship, not food.
Thanks to a community who rallied together, turning a near disaster into a reason to give thanks.
