Other News from the Finance Department

New MSA Policy
In July 2008 the Territorial Finance Council approved major revisions to the Army's "Management Support Assessment" levy, to take effect April 1, 2009.  The revised policy will have wide ranging implications for all Salvation Army units, and all personnel involved in accouting and business should be fully aware of the new policy. Click here to read the proposal which was subsequently approved.  The policy document itself will be posted to the Operating Policy Manual (as policy 0101) in due course.

Treasury Management
The "Treasury Management" group is a little known part of the Territorial Finance Department which consists of 4 staff. Find out more about this group and their responsibilities by clicking here to read an article written by the director, Ms. Patricia Dunbar.

Cyborg Electronic Payroll Advices
Staff on the HRIS/Cyborg payroll system can choose to receive a PDF electronic copy of their pay advice, rather than accumulating paper copies.  To help save the environment by opting for electronic pay advices, just contact Mr. Harry Hand, Director of Payroll at 2 Overlea Blvd, Toronto ON M4H 1P4 (or by fax at 416-422-6111).

The e-pay advice is a read-only PDF document, sent by encrypted Lotus Notes email. Those individuals who have a Lotus Notes email account will have the advice sent to that address, and can be assured that its content are secure and confidential. Only the individual to whom the email is sent will be able to access the email and pay advice.

For those individuals who do not have a Lotus Notes email account, or who have a Lotus Notes account but would prefer to have their pay advice emailed to a personal email account, the electronic delivery service can still be offered, but we must be clear that the encryption of the email will not be in effect once it reaches an external email system. As such, we can not guarantee the confidentiality of the contents. Individuals who do not have a Lotus Notes email account will have to decide whether or not they wish us to provide the pay advice electronically or continue with a paper advice delivered by Canada Post. In order for us to provide this service, we would ask that these individuals sign and return (by hard copy only) a waiver form (see the Lotus Notes Notice Board for this form or contact the THQ payroll group @ 416-425-2111). These waivers can be sent to the attention of Harry as above.

For those individuals who do not have an email address, or for individuals who do not have a Lotus Notes address and do not sign a waiver, a paper copy of the pay advice will continue to be mailed to your home address.

Standard Charitable Receipt Forms...
In 2007 the Canada & Bermuda Territory implemented a new standard charitable receipt form for use with Shelby Web. The new form is intended to replace the older silver (used primarily in the Contributions module) and green (used in the Receipting module) forms, and is now shipping from the Supplies & Purchasing Department.  Click here to read more about the new receipt form and see an example.

The saDashboard...
Did you know that any ministry unit personnel that is involved in finances can obtain a Lotus Notes "saDashboard" account? This account uses the internet to access part of the Salvation Army's internal website, where users can find many valuable resources (including the Dispo, the Manual of Operating Policies and the Territorial Finance Manual).
