The Salvation Army Helps Those Affected by the East York Highrise Blast

Toronto, ON – The Salvation Army’s Emergency and Disaster Services has been onsite since Sunday afternoon assisting residents and emergency personnel of the East York highrise blast.

A relief centre at a nearby school has been setup to assist over 150 residents, fire, police and emergency personnel. “The Salvation Army continues to provide practical and emotional support to those displaced by the blast as well as EDS personnel who require hydration and nourishment during this time, said Captain John Murray, spokesperson for The Salvation Army."

As part of the broader Emergency and Disaster Services plan The Salvation Army is working in cooperation with the Canadian Red Cross and city officials on the logistics of providing personal items, food and relocating individuals with specials needs.

The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and 115 countries around the world.
