The Salvation Army Builds 205 New Homes For Tsunami Survivors In Sri Lanka

Following the completion of 100 homes in Galagodawatte during the initial phase of this project, The Salvation Army has recently completed 205 owner-driven homes in Ampara and Kalutara, while another 48 are in progress.

An owner-driven home is one built in close collaboration with the eventual owner to ensure that the building meets both personal and cultural needs.

In addition to 205 new houses, The Salvation Army has:


  • Established three community centres in Galle, Kalutara and Ampara--with another two on the way.



  • Assisted with the formation of eight youth societies that have helped almost 250 young people receive vocational training.



  • Supported 181 women and families through micro enterprises and



  • Assisted 470 organizations as they received business planning and record keeping training.
