Halifax - Rick MacDonald is someone who, three years ago, was contemplating suicide. He lived in the bushes on the Dartmouth side of one of the bridges and was getting ready to end it all, and, just by chance, discovered that The Salvation Army had a recovery program.
He was in detox and at his wit's end. When he learned The Salvation Army was full he begged to be taken in. They found a place for him and told him he was going to have to work really hard.
And now, he's completely turned his life around. He's celebrating his third year of complete sobriety by running from the New Brunswick border to The Salvation Army Booth Centre in downtown Halifax. He began on October 13 in the heart of Amherst and will arrive back in Halifax on October 20. Runners from across the region are invited to join Rick in this last leg of the journey.
A celebration rally will be held at the Booth Centre on Gottingen Street at 2:00 p.m. October 20th He's starting in Amherst and wants to raise awareness for the Army. All the details about that are at www.SalvationArmy.ca/runningsober.
