Right across the country, Canadians are following their Olympic athletes as they compete at the Beijing Games. Whether watching on TV, listening to the radio, or receiving instant updates from the web, Canadians have cheered on their swimmers, divers, kayakers and track athletes as they’ve pursued athletic excellence.
Salvationists at Belleville Citadel are no exception. Brian Price, the crew coxswain for Canada’s men’s eight rowing team, attends the Salvation Army church with his family. Throughout the Beijing Games, the church has prayed and supported Brian and the rest of the rowing team. When the team won gold on Sunday morning─Canada’s second gold medal of the Beijing Games─the church clapped and cheered for Brian during their service.
Later, during a children’s time in the service, a church leader spoke about the Olympics and presented medals to Brian’s two young nieces.
News of the church’s support for Brian made its way to CBC, where Ron MacLean mentioned the Salvation Army church during his on-air commentary.
