The Vancouver Sun Run is Canada's biggest 10k run and the second largest in North America. Last year the Sun Run had 50,746 registered runners. This year will mark the 23rd year of the Sun Run and on Sunday, April 15, organizers estimate over 50,000 runners again. As well last year saw 2,049 parents and kids run in the Mini Sun Run which is a 2.5k run.
The Salvation Army once again we will have 15 to 20 volunteers at the start line to pick up clothing, blankets, shoes etc. that are left behind by runners. Last year we gathered enough items to fill an EMS vehicle. The items are laundered, then given to those in need.
This year for the first time we will also have a team at the Mini Sun Run Gear Check station. Runners pay $5 to check their gear and return after the run to pick it up. The Sun Run has agreed to give all proceeds to The Salvation Army 614 corps who will man the station.
