North Vancouver - A free Salvation Army soccer program helps local kids to learn focus and discipline. Savation Army Sports Director, Charles MacGregor, a former goalie coach, has run the soccer skills program at a local community centre for two years.
Every sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening kids drop in to play. MacGregor sees his program as a development league for youth who may be able to move up to elite leagues, as well as an opportunity for everyone to learn focus and discipline while having healthy fun.
"These are kids who don't have a lot of money and some spend a lot of time on the street," says MacGregor.
The Salvation Army and the West Vancouver Lions Club provide the funding. MacGregor wants to attract more participants, offer another drop-in day per week and get funding to hire a female coach.
