Immigrant & Refugee Services in Ontario Central Division recently participated in the World Refugee Day celebrations at Dundas Square. The theme for the day was "Hope"and guests included Mayor David Millar and Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Heil.
The Salvation Army logo on our tent at Dundas Square could be seen, from quite a distance, by all walking up Yonge Street. On the actual site, staff and students were manning the tent, in which there was also art work done by one of our students, Cindy Truong. People wanted to buy it, but items could not be sold during the event. However, Cindy's work received much interest, which bodes well for her in the future.
In addition to the tent, the videotron played continuously over the six hours. Since only six organizations had submitted material, our video loop, prepared by Art Nickel with help from Ruth Kimmins, gave us great exposure every six minutes!
