Pray for Peace… General Shaw Clifton

Fri 22nd Sep 2006 1 comment

At the height of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in August, General Shaw Clifton, international leader of The Salvation Army, asked Salvationists around the world to pray for peace. To mark the International Day of Prayer for Peace, celebrated on September 21, 2006, he talks about how Christians and other faith groups can work toward world peace.

Praying for peace is an essential part of Christian worship. Click the play button below to listen to Doug Field, media producer at THQ, discuss with the General, the General's reasons for encouraging Salvationists to pray specifically at this time.

Thank you for sharing that podcast. I believe it is a powerful thing when we find the courage and confidence to work with God to transform the inevitable conflicts that happen in our own families, neighbourhoods and churches. The often painful work we do together as we move towards reconciliation and forgiveness brings opportunities for learnings and new understandings. It is a sign of hope in
our conflicted world, as we demonstrate the real transformation wrought in our own lives by the grace of God. It gives us words of hope to speak into the greater conflicts in the world around us.

I have committed to a prayer vigil for work in this area, and would like to encourage others to pray as well. I know there are people of different denominations praying along with me, in their own homes, or on line, as we together lift up before God the whole Body of Christ. With warmest blessings, Eleanor Burne-Jones, n/TSSF Penzance, Cornwall UK
