Pembroke,Ont. - Early this past Sunday morning, Cpts Robert and Denise Spurrell, COs,The Salvation Army Pembroke Community Church, saw flames coming out of the rooftop of the garage at their home.
Cpt Spurrell said they were in bed when the doorbell rang. No one was there but that is when Spurrell saw the flames. The doorbell wire malfunctioned from the fire, which caused it to ring.
The family escaped unharmed. "The garage is connected to our house, and the fire could have easily spread to our room. My wife, my daughter and I are fortunate to be alive," said Spurrell. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
