Officer Care Program

Please be assured that the confidentiality of your approach to the Pastoral Services Office is assured at all times, and that every approach is treated with Christian dignity and respect. All Pastoral Services staff are dedicated to, and bound by, the professional and Christian ethic of 'client confidentiality.'

The Salvation Army Pastoral Services Office has developed a "Professional Assistance Plan" which is available to all active Officers and their immediate family members who are attending school or university. Family members who are unemployed are not eligible for sponsored counselling.

Active Officers or their children may phone any member of the Pastoral Team for counsel or support. Collect calls will be accepted without question. Please see page one of this document for the listings of the Officers in your region. If the Pastoral Services Officer is away from the phone you may leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Again, all calls are confidential.

Procedures - The Office of Pastoral Services has developed an extensive roster of Christian Counsellors throughout the Canada and Bermuda Territory, and only those approved by The Salvation Army Office of Pastoral Services will be used for counselling purposes.

If counselling is requested, a decision is usually made and approval given during the initial contact with a Pastoral Services Officer. Upon application to the Director of Pastoral Services a number is assigned and this becomes the only means of client identification used throughout the counselling period. Once the client's needs have been assessed a counsellor who is trained in that specialized area is chosen from the Pastoral Services roster, and the client is supplied with that counsellor's name. The client is then advised to contact the counsellor, and commence the counselling.

If after a couple of sessions, the counselling relationship does not seem to be helpful, please contact the Pastoral Services office.
