As you probably already know, Booth College is a Christian institution. This is a really great aspect of the school and makes Booth a safe place to explore your faith and to learn more about the Bible. The classes at Booth help students learn more about faith, the Bible and its content. We also have weekly chapel services where we worship together─they have a coffee house feels to them.
In my first year at Booth, I took two courses that really helped me dig deep into my faith and explore my own beliefs. One of those courses was Introduction to Christianity. This class introduced me to the lengthy history that leads up to where Christianity exists today. It was full of great discussions and many heated debates─which sometimes evoked a lot of emotion─and helped me learn more about how Christianity has changed over the years.
The class Christian Growth, Community and Mission encouraged me to learn more about myself as a Christian. This class involves partner devotions, which means that everyone in the class is assigned a partner and they read a devotional book together. Once a week, my partner and I met to discuss what we had read and the thoughts or emotions it had evoked in us. I was partnered with a really wonderful young woman and we became great friends.
Chapel is a wonderful and safe place to worship and spend time with God. It takes place twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:20 AM. Wednesday’s chapel begins with worship singing and concludes with a message by a variety of speakers. Friday’s chapel is often more relaxed and starts out with coffee, drinks and some goodies set out for everyone to have. It is a really good place to connect with other people at the school and to have some good conversations at the end of the week.
Michelle Robert is a second-year student at Booth College in Winnipeg. She is studying social work and hopes to spend her life helping others. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoys knitting, reading and playing with her dog.
