Cpt Dale Sobool, northern territories ministry co-ordinator, helps Lynn White, shelter director, unload new mattresses
This past winter, the Salvation Army shelter in Yellowknife received 20 new mattresses from Lynn White and her consulting firm, Whiteworks. Lynn took the old ones away, then delivered the new mattresses that are fire retardant and easy to clean. “For me, it’s really just about doing the right thing and giving back to the community,†she admits.†“For The Salvation Army, it’s about keeping people safe and warm,†she said.
The new mattresses will go into the Productive Choice unit of the shelter. This is a place where men who are staying sober or drug free, working or attending classes or program, can come for the night and have their own bunk at the shelter. Shelter director Julie Benreddad is very happy with the donation and said, “All we need now are blankets and sheets to cover the mattressesâ€.
