Ignite Is About Significant Mission

Fri 4th Jan 2008 Add comment

Ignite is a 10-month mission and discipleship training program based in Regent Park, Corps 614, Toronto. Young adults, 18 to 30, who are committed to the Christian faith and who want to spend one year in an urban community, living out God’s mission are trained and equipped as disciples of Jesus Christ. Ignite is for innovators, creators, the heroic and the willing.

In addition to classroom theory on mission, team members are immersed in hands-on experience as they live, learn and minister in the inner city. The Ignite team live together incarnationally in the urban community in which they minister, and serve in the corps and neighbourhood through various placements. They also commit to living a simplistic lifestyle based on examples given in scripture; sharing what you have, taking only what you need and being a good steward of what you have received.

Throughout the year, Ignite members are challenged in their relationship with God. This happens both formally and informally. Igniters spend more than 300 hours in the classroom over the course of the year, beginning with five weeks of intensive teaching, followed by weekly classes. The teaching components of Ignite are divided into six main streams: Bible, Theology, Holiness, Leadership & Personal Development, Mission & Ministry Skills and Social Justice. Each Ignite team member also has a mentor to provide accountability and direction in their spiritual development.
