Newfoundland - Two women's camps were recently held in the N.L. W Div with a total of 429 women in attendance. The theme was "Travelling Light".
In keeping with the Women's Ministries Centenary a time of celebration was held on the Saturday night of camp. There was a big birthday party that included hats and streamers. A nice dinner was served and throughout the evening there was lots of fun and laughter.
What would a party be without prizes? Some of these the women had to work for while others were given to people for being born on Catherine Booth's or the DDWM's birthday.
Women donated money at the party to Capt. Donna Simms, DYS, who is going to Monrovia, Liberia on a Women's Ministries Mission October 17-31. This was presented to Donna to help with her expenses.
The party took on a more serious tone at the end when Brenda Campbell, one of the Salvation Sounds (the camps musical guests from Guelph, ON), came into the room as Evangeline Booth dressed in full Salvation Army uniform including the bonnet. In character as Eva she did a monologue and interspersed throughout she sang a number of Evangeline Booth's songs. It was very moving and when she finished the room was silent. We thanked God for our wonderful heritage.
