Dunnville, Ont. - "We want to make the public aware that homelessness still exists in our community," says Tracy Gibbs, manager of Dunnville's Salvation Army Family and Community Services.
This year's second annual Sleep in the Park is on Sept 28. Last year approximately 150 area residents gathered in Central Park to spend a night under the stars. That inaugural Sleep in the Park raised $13,000 to benefit Salvation Army homelessness programs.
For this year's Sleep in the Park Dunnville's Salvation Army and Hamilton's Salvation Army are simultaneously hosting events. Hamilton's Sleep in the Park will be held at Bayfront Park. Organizers hope $60,000 will be raised collectively from the two events with funds being used for homelessness initiatives.
