On June 1, The Salvation Army New Hope Centre in Nanaimo, B.C. opened its doors. The homeless shelter has 23 beds and 16 separate and self-contained studio suites. The latest estimates indicate at least 300 people live on the streets of this Harbour City. The centre will also have a drop-in centre and a meal program.
