Freedom from addiction

Thu 4th Jan 2007 Add comment

micharl-jackedit.jpgMichael Jack was hooked on cheap booze and was on the fast track to self-destruction when The Salvation Army helped him turn his life around. On Monday, January 8, 2007, Mike will tell his story on 100 Huntley Street.
He smoked his first marijuana joint when he was 10 years old. Although it seemed harmless at the time, he had no idea where his life would end up because of that day. For the next 25 years he used and abused every intoxicating substance he could get his hands on. Drugs and alcohol were the centre of his existence.

At the height of his addiction Michael remembers standing at the corner of Jane St. and Finch Ave. in Toronto, thinking to himself that there wasn't one place in the whole world where he would be welcome.

Michael had blisters on his feet, hadn't slept for days and all he wanted was more cocaine. His arms were full of scabs from injecting over and over again. Michael was a total mess. But September 1992, through tragic event something happened that brought a change to Michael and he ended up at the Salvation Army's Harbor Light. After 13 years of being clean and sober Michael has learned that he is valuable in God's eyes.
