Toronto - Today, Habitat for Humanity is holding its fifth annual faith leaders’ build. Major Ivan Rowsell, divisional director of Correctional & Justice Services Chaplaincies, Ontario Central-East division is one of 40 leaders from Toronto’s mosques, churches and synagogues who put aside their theological differences and build homes for a day with families in need.
Their cooperation will foster hope in a city where 25% of the population lives below the poverty line.
The homes that the faith leaders will be building are the first ENERGY STAR® homes built by Habitat for Humanity Toronto. As a nonprofit homebuilder, Habitat Toronto is setting an example for affordable housing solutions that protect the environment for future generations.
The land at Kingston Road was purchased by Ed and Fran Clark, and represents the largest land donation by a family in Canadian Habitat history. The Home Depot Canada, Habitat Toronto’s Partner in Sustainability, and the affiliate’s largest corporate donor, is mobilizing employees to volunteer every day of the Blitz. Community Builders on the project include Direct Energy and Enbridge, whose employees are also participating in this “finishing touches†build.
