Cfot is pleased to announce the flagbearer for the Witnesses for Christ session (2007-2009). Danette Downton, St. John’s Citadel, NLE division will bear the Blood and Fire standard for the duration of training at CFOT Winnipeg. In wars prior to the modern era, during hand to hand combat, the services of the standard bearer were employed to rally the scattered troops under the flag or banner of the particular command. The flag is a guiding symbol to bring battered troops together under the image it reflects. The flag is a symbol of hope because if the flag flies then the battle is won, and the land is not lost. The flagbearer is the responsible to ensure the flag does not fall under any circumstances.
Every session of cadets is trained under the flag of The Salvation Army, the Blood and Fire standard. The sessional flag bears their name, “Witnesses for Christâ€, but more importantly is an image of our Triune God. The Blue represents the purity of God, the Red for the Blood of Jesus Christ, and Yellow representing the Fire of the Holy Spirit, the animating power for everything we do.
The imagery of the flag reminds us that as soldiers fighting a Salvation fight we are rallied under the banner of God, and our fight is against injustice, inequality among the sexes, races, and social classes, a war against fear, a war against sin. God aligns the troops and empowers the troops. The flag reminds us that God will guide, and bears a constant reminder that He brings hope to those who are worn and weary from the fight. It is under this symbol we train and are commissioned as soldiers in The Salvation Army.
Cadet Danette Downton’s testimony, her sense of salvationism, and her witness of God’s joy in her life make her an excellent representative for her session, and a flagbearer called to raise God’s standard above His Army. God bless Danette as she undertakes this task. God bless The Salvation Army.
