The Salvation Army Canada & Bermuda territory held its first Human Trafficking Awareness Conference: “Looking Behind the Smile,â€Â April 16 - 18, 2007.
With funds generously donated by The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, this conference was able to take place and is considered to have been a great success.
The purpose of the conference was to educate key people from each of the divisions who are most likely to come into contact with trafficked persons.
Quality speakers such as Victor Malarek (investigative journalist with CTV and author or The Natashas), Dr. Michael Smith (TSA Southern California Division Social Services Consultant), Various Law Enforcement, Mj. Sallyann Hood of TSA Mexico Territory and others made the time together constructive and informative although something of a marathon.
