The program 'ANCESTORS IN THE ATTIC'Â focuses on the life story of John Tomlinson, one of The Salvation Army's 'farm boys'. It will air on the history channel Saturday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday November 28 at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Twenty years ago, Dave Tomlinson's estranged father, John, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Today, Dave is looking for closure by asking the questions about John's life that he didn't have time to ask when his father was still alive.
As an orphaned teenager in the UK, John was shipped to Canada as one of The Salvation Army Boy Farmers for Canada. The day he arrived, a photo was taken of John and the other boys who travelled with him. Now Dave asks for Jeff and Paul's help in tracking down the descendants of those boys in the hope of learning more about his own father.
The Salvation Army Archives on Howden Road contains the shipping logs covering the period 1912 to the mid 1940s and the record of John Tomlinson is contained in those records. A portion of the above mentioned program was filmed on location at The Salvation Army Archives.
