Salvation Army staff bust thief

Fri 1st Sep 2006 1 comment

Ottawa - The staff at the Ottawa Grace Manor Long Term Care facility recently nabbed an alleged thieving employee.

The employee has been fired after eight months on the job at the senior's home.

Major Larry Jones, executive director of Grace Manor, said this was the first time an employee has been caught stealing at the facility. "It is really disappointing there are some people in society who will take advantage of the elderly," said Jones.

The hunt for the theif began in April after administration noticed a steady trickle of complaints of missing money and jewellery.

While the Salvation Army is clearly constantly diligent in its hiring practices, there are always individuals who may yield to the temptations that are presented to them in such an open and enlightened patient care environment.

This unfortunate incident is but a small "blip on the radar screen". On my visits this marvelous facility: I have observed not only that is it "state of the art", but most importantly, the commitment of staff towards caring for our most senior citizens in their time of need is pervasive. Maintain those exemplary good works!
