On the weekend of June 2-4, 2006, Renfrew celebrated their 120th Anniversary. Special guests for the weekend were Majors Don and Lillian Bursey, Major Don was an officer in Renfrew in 1958. Also supporting the weekend were Majors Max and Helen Bulmer and Mr. Charlie Broughton, who took on the role of General William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army.
Many activities took place over the weekend including flag raising at The Town Hall, a welcome meeting and anniversary dinner, a gospel music concert, a worship service Sunday morning and praise meeting Sunday afternoon.
On Friday evening and Sunday morning Major Bursey spoke about being all we can be and that we need to be the best we can be for God. We have to confess our wrong to God, then to one another.
Sunday morning we were privileged to have with us The Salvation Army Woodroffe Community Church band from Ottawa.
Sunday afternoon we heard about Catherine Booth from Mrs. Barbara Rattry, a member of the Corps, followed by a presentation by the General (Charlie Broughton) entitled 'Who Cares?'
The weekend concluded with the singing of all seven verses of O Boundless Salvation.
Note: If you are looking for something different (and a way of teaching people about General Booth) for your camps, senior rallies, or youth gatherings, Mr. Broughton does an excellent General Booth. He can be contacted at charlieb@mountaincable.net
