Local company's ongoing commitment to The Salvation Army

October 6, 2006 - It was 6:00 a.m. when they were in place and ready to go. At this time of day many people have not yet had that first sip of coffee, but the crew from Newpark Drilling Fluids were excited and eager to embrace their task.

It was their morning to serve breakfast at the Centre of Hope in Calgary, and their enthusiasm was contagious, lifting the spirits of the kitchen staff and residents alike. "It sure is nice to see all of these smiling faces," remarked one resident. "And the breakfast was great!"

The special breakfast consisted of French toast and syrup (with a sprinkle of icing sugar), sausages and an orange wedge. As an added touch, the diners were personally served their breakfast by the attentive volunteers.

The project is a part of the Newpark's ongoing committment to The Salvation Army, that sees them sponsor and serve a breakfast to the residents of the Centre. Later in the year, Newpark will be also providing new socks for the residents, an important gift with the approach of winter. The Salvation Army, our staff and residents want to thank Newpark Drilling Fluids for making a regular day something special.

The Calgary Center of Hope, completed in 2001 is a new model of service provision for the Salvation Army, bringing together a variety of previously separate programs. The building provides accommodation for over 400 residents, including some emergency housing, a women's shelter, mental health population accommodations, food and life skills training, chapel and counselling services, and recreational programs.
