I believe in cell groups

One morning, the gathered believers were praying for each other. In twos, they asked God to speak clearly as they approached the next stage of the cell meeting when they would look closely at the Bible. Nervously, Richard turned to Dawn: 'I think Jesus is telling me something to tell you.' Dawn encouraged him, and he continued: 'I think Jesus is saying that it is going to be all right. You are going to be OK.'

She had not been forgotten
A very simple message, it spoke deeply to Dawn. She had suffered tremendous hurt and this let her know that she had not been forgotten ' Jesus was with her, knew her pain and promised to bring healing. Richard had no idea about Dawn's pain, partly because she had managed to keep it buried, and partly because Richard was nine years old.

If an adult had spoken those words, Dawn may have taken them as shallow platitudes. However, Jesus used this community, with himself at the centre, to break down some of Dawn's barriers. Richard learnt that he was old enough to be used by God in very important ways, and that he had a place in this group of believers.

This true story ' the names have been changed ' is why I believe in cell groups. When they work well they create an environment where people feel comfortable with God and each other, where every member of the gathering is welcomed and valued and able to contribute meaningfully. I want to see open communities where love is real and honesty abounds, where nobody has to pretend and where people are attracted, accepted and have a sense of belonging.

This kind of environment brings out the best in me
Over time, cell groups create relationships where we stop thinking to ourselves: 'Oh dear, if they really knew me'' because 'they' really do know us and still love and value us. This kind of environment helps me admit my mistakes, celebrate my successes, and brings out the best in me.

The size, structure and values of cell groups allow for every member to speak, share needs, encourage other members, grow in faith and ask for help in their walk with Jesus and in their attempts to share him with their friends, family, colleagues and others.

Cell groups are a tight-knit band of believers intent on salvation, carrying the dream of reaching the lost with the love of Jesus. This is why I believe in cell groups.
