Christian Rock Band brings relevance to many searching young people

Wed 20th Sep 2006 1 comment

After only two short years together, it is undeniable that Christian Rock band Grounded have a long and promising career ahead of them.

Continuous progress in the group’s musicianship and dedication to their cause is reflected in their ever-growing fan base and line up of steady dates. The improving quality of Grounded’s recent song-writing and recording endeavors is evidence of their unwavering commitment to the vision they have for sharing God’s message through music.

All four members of Grounded find their hometown roots in central Newfoundland and were brought up in the Salvation Army tradition. Furthermore, the band’s vocalists, Kurtis and Dion bring the common influence of having parents as pastors and therefore bring relevance to many searching young people. Eventually each member relocated, and now the band is based out of Halifax, NS. You will find them playing at various youth events, church meetings, coffee houses and most importantly at their own organized, regular worship event, SNL (Sunday Night Live) at their home church, the Salvation Army Halifax Citadel.

While each member of the band shares many similarities, they each play an individual role in the achievements of the group thus far. “We all have really unique ideas on how and what we should strive for as a group. Sometimes that can be hard, but at the same time, I feel it is to our advantage”, says Kurtis who has been concentrating on writing songs that are relevant to his generation in terms of musical style and comprehensive lyrics. He feels most passionate about bringing the message to struggling teens. Likewise, Dion brings a peaceful approach of spirituality with his calm stage presence and creative vocals.

Andrew brings a determination that is contagious and even learned how to play the harmonica specifically for one song that never goes un-requested when the loyal fans are around. Troy contributes not only with drumming, but also with his experience and education in sound engineering as he is overseeing the production of the group’s upcoming album. “The hardest thing for us right now is finding time in our schedules to get together and record. It is a really lengthy process and it’s easy to get frustrated when timelines don’t work out according to plan” says Troy.

Through many ups and downs, the band emerges as a strong and functional unit with a relentless focus and a determination for something so much deeper than fame or fortune. Grounded and built up in Him, their name says it all and their faith will see them through.

Grounded is:
Kurtis Loveless - Vocals, Guitar
Dion Durdle - Vocals, Guitar
Andrew Benson - Bass, Harmonica
Troy Keats - Drums
